Individual Therapy

One on one is the classic form of therapy. Its deeply powerful because its rooted in our natural inclination to become our best selves when we feel understood and valued. When we have a safe platform to reflect our choices become better. We balance vulnerability, courage, authenticity, and empathy in ways which bring dignity to ourselves and those around us. This happens regardless of the particular approach your therapist prefers as long as there is a feeling of mutual respect and appreciation. The most important factor in individual therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. If your considering therapy its worth the effort to find someone you feel good about so don’t be afraid to try more than one therapist :).

Couples Therapy

Long term partnership has a way of pulling up parts of ourselves we may not fully understand or even like. Some of us respond by shutting down, some pick fights, some sweep it under the rug. Its deeply challenging to feel the ups and downs move through us while also being compassionate with our partners. We can get so lost trying to protect ourselves form the pain of the ups and downs. Couples therapy is about seeing the human in your partner again rather than the hurts we have accumulated. This means understanding triggers, learning to detach from feelings of rejection, and exploring routines which reignite our connection to one another. Couples therapy is hard but the fruit it bares is worth the effort.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is unique in its potential to serve as a spring board. It may bring up the greatest anxiety for those uninitiated but a small and safe community where we can bring our vulnerabilities offers validation at a level greater than any other form. Community based or professionally lead group therapy is a gift for those willing to give it a try. Anyone curious about it should take the leap, this goes for any group out there East Peoria Counseling or otherwise.

We currently run a men’s group every Thursday evening from 5:30pm-7:00pm.

Family Therapy

The more a family is able to speak to one another about their experiences of one another the healthier it is. Some roles within the family can become very unhealthy. Individually we may bottle and internalize stress, as a family we may bottle and internalize stress, and as a family we may all silently agree to cope in ways which leave us alone, isolated, and hurt. Family Therapy seeks to help the family step out of old hurtful patterns and find ways to communicate with one another with dignity. This process can be very raw but any family seeking out therapy is doing so from a place of love and that means a lot.
